Getting a taste of Maine Spring Skiing in January at Lost Valley
By Carl Natale
I really didn’t think I would get a chance to try out spring skiing in January, but that’s what I got when I visited Lost Valley this week. Temperatures were in the 40s when I got there on a Tuesday afternoon.
Showing up just after they open on at 2 p.m. during the week [...]
If it is a Maine snowstorm it must be Thursday….. via @Schusster Maine Ski Bum
By Carl Natale
I hear reports of some flakes falling in southern Maine already. By the time we head to work Friday morning, there can be anywhere from four to eight inches of new snow on Maine mountains. But it may turn into freezing rain or sleet by the time it’s done. The closer we get [...]
Ring in the new year on Maine’s ski slopes -Maine Ski Report via @Schusster
By Carl Natale
Strong winds forced a lot of lifts to shut down Wednesday and delayed starts Thursday morning. Those winds should die down but the mountains will stay cold - giving snow makers more time on the trails. There is a possibility of snow showers Friday night before temperatures get a bit warmer for the weekend. [...]

Happy Winter Solstice!
It’s hard to believe that Winter has officially started with Thursday’s relatively balmy temperatures. But things are cooling down, and Maine can expect to wake up to 1 to 3 inches of snow Friday morning. Maybe 2-4 inches on the mountains. Just in [...]
Two Maine Ski Areas to Open This Weekend - Maine Ski Report via @Schusster - Maine Ski Bum
Dec 15
Last week we had a cold snap that warmed the hearts of snowmakers all over Maine. But mild temperatures came and pushed back projected opening dates for many of Maine’s ski areas. Expect more seasonal, cooler temperatures this weekend. Which should make the snowmakers happy again.
And there’s talk of getting a couple storms between [...]
Maine Snowmakers get some help from Mother Nature - Maine Ski Report from Maine’s Own Ski Bum @Schusster
Dec 9 2011
By Carl Natale
That last storm may not seem like much but it placed some snow on the mountains. Sunday River only reports an inch. Saddleback and Sugarloaf say they have seven fresh inches of snow. What’s really important is that the temperatures have dropped below freezing - giving snowmakers some help. More snow is [...]
Maine Ski Season Stalls Slightly - Maine Ski Report via Maine’s Own Ski Bum @Schusster

The warm temps are coming down and the mountains should get some snow Friday. But that should clear up by Saturday. Expect sunny skies this weekend before a cold front moves in Monday. We don’t know what kind of precipitation that will bring yet.
Those warm temperatures haven’t been great for making [...]
How did you like that storm? Maine Thanksgiving Ski Report from @Schusster
How did you like that storm? The mountains saw a foot of snow just before a four-day weekend. If you’re going to get out Thursday, be prepared for temperatures in the 30s. But Friday and the rest of the weekend should be sunny with temps in the 50s.
Sugarloaf opened this week just in time for [...]
We are Still Waiting For Winter - Maine Ski Report from @Schusster
Nov 18 -
The temperatures are looking pretty mild this weekend. Which will be good for getting out. Just not on skis.
Friday is supposed to be Sugarloaf’s opening day. But Mother Nature isn’t been cooperating with the snow guns. The mountain report lists the primary surface as “fast grass.” But that can change any day. So [...]

It’s a good weekend for skiers to get ready for winter!

We have some moisture moving into Maine tonight and Friday. The temperatures will be a little warm so expect rain. Cross your fingers that temperatures drop to create snow.
Which seems OK since most of the Maine skiing industry is focused on the Boston Ski & [...]

Yes, it’s ski season in Maine. At least at Sunday River. After opening trails for the Nor’easter and Halloween last weekend, they plan to reopen ski trails Saturday and Sunday. Other ski mountains are planning to open:

Maine Ski Report from @Schusster Maine Ski Bum
Is it ski season yet?
The weather forecasts have snow falling on Maine today - especially “over the higher elevations.” (Let’s call those ski mountains.) Not much is expected to fall, and it’s not expected to accumulate because the ground is still warm. Does that mean it’s time to break out the skis?
Sunday River has a habit [...]
