Dreaming of a white Christmas on Maine ski slopes - Maine Ski Report via Maine Ski Bum @Schusster
By Carl Natale
It’s hard to believe that Winter has officially started with Thursday’s relatively balmy temperatures. But things are cooling down, and Maine can expect to wake up to 1 to 3 inches of snow Friday morning. Maybe 2-4 inches on the mountains. Just in time for the holiday weekend.
UPDATE: Big Rock Ski Resort is reporting snow in Mars Hill.
Speaking of which, more mountains are finally opening. Here are the latest additions to our list of open ski areas:
- Mt. Abram Ski Resort: Today! (Closed Christmas)
- Big Rock Ski Resort: Friday (Closed Christmas)
- Black Mountain: Monday
- Camden Snow Bowl: Friday (Closed Christmas)
- Hermon Mountain: Friday?
- Lonesome Pine: Friday?
- Lost Valley: Today! (Closed Christmas)
Saddleback, Shawnee Peak, Sunday River and Sugarloaf already are running. They’re able to open more trails for beginners. By the way, there’s a chance of more snow Sunday.
Ullr Fest at Shawnee Peak
You know winter has started when you hear the drums from Shawnee Peak. The Ullr Fest starts Tuesday night with “The Beating of the Drums,” a torchlight parade and fireworks.
Learn to Ski and Snowboard
Looking ahead a bit, Learn to Ski and Snowboard Week is scheduled Jan. 8-13. You can sign up for lessons at participating ski resorts. Also, there are deals throughout January designed to get more people interested in skiing.
Happy Holidays
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas or are enjoying Hanukkah. Hopefully you will have new ski gear to enjoy on the slopes this winter.
