How did you like that storm? Maine Thanksgiving Ski Report from @Schusster
How did you like that storm? The mountains saw a foot of snow just before a four-day weekend. If you’re going to get out Thursday, be prepared for temperatures in the 30s. But Friday and the rest of the weekend should be sunny with temps in the 50s.
Sugarloaf opened this week just in time for the big dump. And of course Sunday River is open. We’re still waiting on a few more openings this fall:
- Mt. Abram Ski Resort: Dec. 10
- Big Rock Ski Resort: Dec. 10
- Lost Valley: Dec. 16
- Camden Snow Bowl: Dec. 17
- Saddleback Ski Area: Dec. 17
If you’re near Mars Hill, you can work some turkey off at Big Rock. They are open Thanksgiving Day for crosscountry skiing. No amenities.
Down East Ski Sale
The Down East Ski Sale will be held 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday at the Portland Expo Building on Park Avenue in Portland. Before you go, be sure to get useful tips on getting the best deals at ski swaps.
Down-Mountain and Cross-Country: 140 Years of Skiing in Maine
The Ski Museum of Maine will bring its next Fireside Chat to Freeport’s Horny Toad at 7-8 p.m. Nov. 30. “Through over one-hundred pictures from the Museum’s archives, Scott Andrews will show us how Mainers have been shredding the gnar since the arrival of Scandinavian immigrants in 1870.”
