7th Annual Camden International Film Festival
September 29- Oct 2 2011
Camden, Rockland - Maine
Located on the rugged coast of Maine, the Camden International Film Festival will return for its seventh season from September 29 - October 2, 2011. Recognized as one of the top 25 film festivals in the world for documentary films and filmmakers, the festival highlights work that show dedication to craft and a unique and artistic approach to telling a darn good story. Films are selected because of their ability to arouse discussion on documentary film as an art form, a catalyst for change and as an outlet for the independent voice.
Each year the Camden International Film Festival takes over multiple venues throughout coastal towns in Maine. Nestled against the mighty Atlantic during fall’s explosion of color, the festival becomes a unique setting to experience the very best in international documentary film. Accompanying the screening of nearly fifty features and shorts are Q&A’s with directors and producers, informative panels, the Points North Documentary Forum, PANOPTIC (a showcase of new media and experimental artworks), musical concerts, unforgettable parties and an opportunity to connect with eager audiences and industry leaders in an extremely intimate setting.

Invitation
The Camden International Film Festival began in 2005 after the festival’s founder and director realized that, despite New England’s rich history of documentary filmmaking, there was no event dedicated solely to highlighting the work of nonfiction artists, especially the explosion of emerging voices committed to the craft of nonfiction storytelling. That year the festival was born. 22 filmmakers from around the world attended, including Albert Maysles who was recognized for his lifetime achievement to the form.
Since 2005 CIFF has screened hundreds of award-winning films and hosted filmmakers from all over the world. Commitment to seek out work that pushes the boundaries of the form has helped us achieve our status as one of the most anticipated documentary events in the US. But the festival is more then just screenings, it’s an experience and we think the CIFF experience is just as unique and engrossing as the films we screen. Nearly 100% of our films are followed by Q&A sessions with filmmakers and over the past two years we’ve developed musical performances and interactive components that enrich participants experiences.
In 2009 we introduced the Points North Documentary Forum, a conference component consisting of a number of informative panels, workshops and networking events specifically designed to connect the documentary community with key industry leaders. The Forum also hosts the Points North Pitch, a live project pitching event for films and filmmakers looking for feedback from a highly distinguished panel. Past participants include representatives from HBO, the BBC, ARTE, The Tribeca Film Institute, the Sundance Institute and Sundance Channel, PBS, ITVS, IFP, Cinereach, Chicken and Egg, the Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC), the LEF Foundation, American Public Television and a number of leading executive producers, festival programmers and funders.
Each year our audiences grow, but our commitment to our mission remains the same. We love a good story, and we love to sharing them with our audiences. We love the intimacy that can only be found in places where “getting there” is part of the experience. Most importantly we love the intersection of art and community that can only happen in a festival setting.
Join us in 2011 for some great films, merrymaking and more fresh ocean air then you can swallow as we continue this exciting journey of showcasing the very best in nonfiction film.
