Kennebec River The Forks to Caratunk
A beautiful one day canoe trip down a classic Maine river. The current is steady with class II whitewater as the river flows through Maine forest.
Take your time picnic along the shores or try your luck fishing for Maine Salmon or trout. We provide you with canoes, pfds, paddles, and transportation to and from the river.

Inflatable kayaks or “FunYaks” resemble kayaks but are inflatable and have open cockpits. They are available in single and double styles, are very maneuverable and require no prior experience to paddle. We offer daily inflatable kayaking trips in Maine and Massachusetts . Our professional guides will give you whitewater instructions on how to paddle, steer, and enjoy the thrill of paddling your own FUNYAK. We offer both guided and unguided inflatable kayaking trips. Trips include shuttles, guides, all equipment, professional instruction, and a picnic lunch with most trips.

Maine Moose Wildlife Safari Tours
We run moose safaris and wildlife tours twice daily in the morning and afternoon. We will provide you with all your equipment and a choice of a canoe or kayak to search one of the many remote ponds fro the mighty Maine Moose. These ponds are surrounded by the majestic and historic mountains that form the Appalachian Trail . While most folks are eager to see a Maine moose, a variety of wildlife commonly seen on our tours include bald eagles, loons, osprey, great blue heron, pileated woodpeckers, Canada geese, fox, whitetail deer and some very shy black bears.
Your moose safari will be led by an experienced and knowledgeable registered Maine Guide from the Staff of Northwoods Outfitters, Maine ’s premier outdoor outfitter. Our guides have a passion for the Maine wilderness and are well rounded naturalists. In addition to seeing and learning about the Maine Moose and other wildlife, your guides are all very knowlegeable in local history and folklore

This guided interpretive nature tour consists of great scenery, Moose and wildlife watching, infused with local Maine history and lore. The Moosehead and Moxie Lake region’s backcountry is a vast wilderness. This can be a bit overwhelming to the visitor with its vast road network and thousands of acres of undeveloped lands. With a Registered Maine Guide leading the tour you don’t have to worry about which road you’re on, if you should have made that last turn or if you are even in the right place to observe a moose. on our guided moose safari sit back, enjoy the scenery and enjoy your guides company. But stay alert, Maine Moose and other wildlife frequentl this area and can present themselves any moment so join in on the search! From scenic mountain vistas to secret moose hangouts this trip has it all.

Get out and explore the the Maine ’s beautiful backcountry on one of our NEW ATV adventures. Moxie Outdoor Adventures has team up with North Woods Outfitters to provide ATV tours. Trips are available for the extensive ATV trail system in the in the Moosehead Lake Region.
This region offers prime ATV territory with the largest undeveloped forest in the Northeast. Trails exist on both the east and west side of lake, but for the best experience, hire one of our guides to find those secret spots.

Big Moose - Cabins, Inn & Campground
The Big Moose Inn features Cabins, Inn Rooms, a Campground, and a Dining Room. The Lodge is located between Lake Millinocket and Lake Ambajejus , and is within walking distance to our Penobscot River Base. In addition, both the Big Moose Inn, and our Penobscot River Base, are only ten miles from Baxter State Park and the highest mountain in Maine ( Mt. Katahdin - 5,267 feet). Our Penobscot river base is the closest base to the Penobscot river and Baxter State park - offering rafting, camping, lodging and meals.
Cabins sleep from 4 to 14 people and are close to the two lakes. They have hot running water, showers, facilities, and screened in porches. The Inn rooms are country style bed and breakfast rooms with New England antique furnishings and hardwood floors in most rooms. There is an entertainment lounge in the lodge and opportunities to rent canoes, swim, fish, hike, and just relax. The Inn rooms are ideal for couples or families looking for a relaxing place to stay after their rafting trip. The campground provides tent-site camping and each site has fire rings and picnic tables. The campground also has bathrooms, coin-operated showers, a general store, and The Big Moose Inn Restaurant in the main lodge.
