The Harpswell Inn is a historical landmark Bed & Breakfast located on one of Maine’s famous “finger” peninsulas. Situated upon Lookout Point, the Inn provides a stunning view of Maine’s natural beauty, including the magnificent sunsets over Middle Bay and the quiet cove below, which serves as a harbor for lobster boats. Guests of the Inn awake to the smell of salt air mingled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and a hearty breakfast. Most find that they can spend an enjoyable day without even leaving the Inn itself, with its large porch, expansive oak-shaded lawns, Great Room, billiards, free WIFI, and more! Our beautifully decorated, casually elegant accommodations are furnished with antiques that date back to the turn of the century. Choose from several comfortable options located on the Inn’s 2 1/2 acres:
9 Rooms - 3 Luxury Suites - 4 Private Cottages
At the Harpswell Inn, you’ll fall in love with the multitude of sights, sounds, and activities we have to offer–and be sure to visit Bowdoin College in Brunswick or go shopping in Bath or Freeport.
History of the Harpswell Inn
The Summer House – built in 1761, now the Harpswell Inn, was originally the old cookhouse of famed Lookout Point Shipyard, which made sturdy vessels that sailed the seven seas. Harpswell has been called a nursery for those who sailed the seas, but there were stalwart men who stayed home and fashioned with prideful skill the many stately schooners that carried Harpswell men to fame in those faraway places.
One such shipyard thrived at the sandy point at the Lookout. The yard flourished before, during and after the Civil War, and for about twenty years schooners and brigs ranging from 20 to 200 tons were built and launched there. Sometimes there were as many as four on the ways at once. There is one remaining symbol of the flourishing shipyard which, during the summer months at least, works as of old. That is the old bell a-top Harpswell Inn. In the 1860’s the bell summoned the hungry shipwrights to their meals.

Innkeepers
Anne & Richard Moseley, Innkeepers
Dick and Anne became owners of the Harpswell Inn seven years ago. Their goal has been to preserve the original character of the Inn while providing a a homey atmosphere, and at the same time giving each guest their privacy.
Guests are introduced to the bottomless cookie jar and the guest refrigerator filled with cold drinks. They are encouraged to have a cup of tea or coffee to enjoy wherever they wish. Guests take advantage of the view of the ocean and spectacular sunsets from the new wrap around porch.
The Moseleys have also added a second breakfast dining room, and the Middlebay function room, while enlarging the kitchen to accommodate their guests and inside functions. Weddings and others larger functions take place on the grounds of the Inn during the warmer season.
Dick continues to update his culinary skills through the Culinary Institute of America, and is willing and able to accommodate special diets for guests with advanced notice.
Dick and Anne have remained active in the community, making the Middlebay room available for local organizations such as the Harpswell Business Association, of which Dick is President. To keep abreast of the hospitality industry, they belong to several organizations including Maine Tourism, Maine Innkeepers, the Southern Maine Chapter Chamber of Commerce and the Midcoast Maine Inns Association.
They take great pleasure in time spent with their six children and twelve grandchildren. Noah loves to sit by the fire with Grandpa and Bailey, while the youngest member of the family, Casey Ash Moseley, eagerly awaits his first ride on the John Deere with Grandpa.
